Rara Lake Trekking 23 Days

Rara Lake Trekking is a unique opportunity to be among those who have treaded on the remote trails of western Nepal. The route is very much off the beaten track and affords glimpses of culture and scenery very different from those in the rest of Nepal. Rara is a high altitude clear lake ringed with pine, spruce and juniper forest and snow capped Himalayan peaks. It is a good choice if you are bird watcher or desire something close to wilderness solitude.

Rara Lake Trekking is one of the most popular trekking destinations in Western Nepal. The small but exotic Rara National Park lies in the far west of the region and offers a representative sample of the region's flora and fauna. Sprawled over the Mugu and Jumla districts, the heart of the park is the country's biggest lake, Lake Rara, from where the park got its name. The lake is up to 167 meters deep in some places, and drains into the Mugu Karnali river via the Nijar Khola. The Park is mainly covered with coniferous forest and the area around the lake is dominated by blue pine. Rhododendron, juniper, spruce, oak and cypress are found at around 3000 meters while at higher altitude pine, spruce and fir are more common. The rich vegetation of the park is home to the endangered red panda, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, leopard, jackal, Himalayan tahr, yellow-throated martin, wild dog, wild boar, common langur, rhesus macaque and common otter. During winter the park is enlivened by different species of birds like coots, great-crested grebe, black-necked grebe, red crested pochard, mallard, common teal, merganser and gulls. Migrant water fowls and gallinaceous birds can also be seen during certain seasons. The best time to visit the park is autumn, spring and summer.
